It's time for me to flip to another car, and I am beginning to seriously consider a firebird.
I need to get at least 25 mpg, which these appear to do in stock form for both 6 or 8 cyl. I prefer manual, which these of course have. I am decent with a wrench, so reliability isn't a drastic concern. I am not going to be racing, modding, or autocrossing, this is my DD only. I would love t-tops or convertible. And I have loved these since 1994.
However, I am married with 2.5 kids and a dog. Given, in the past four years my kids have only been in my car one time, and the wife's car is the kid hauler. I'm pretty sure that the wife would go apeshit if i put one of these in the driveway. Mrs. Mkbruin simply doesn't get it when it comes to cars. To her, a McLaren was as exciting as a corolla.
So.... do I enter my midlife crisis sideways with my hair on fire, or do I find the nearest accord or Camry and accept my middle management fate?

what year firebirds are you looking at? Unless you like busted knuckles and downtime stay away from Lt1 cars in the F body. The motor is just shoved into a space two sizes too small.
A compromise with the wife would be a 94-96 Impala SS same motor (sadly auto only) but big enough for kids like a corolla. The 96s are the most desirable with their floor shift compared to the 94-95 column shift.

If you can afford it, there's nothing wrong with driving what you want to drive. If you're paying the bills, at least.
